Did I just read a facebook ad
for a popular Bible app saying something about
"the Bible to fit your mood"?
(Pretty sure I did.)
What's up with that?!?
And this from our local newspaper:
I admit it.
I'm concerned.
If it's "difficult in today's world to manage",
how will we survive REAL difficulties
which are sure to come?
I have no problem with short services, butthis sounds like a great watering down. There’s a new Bible version out there called The Voice. It doesn’t have the name Jesus in it.
ReplyDeleteSad.
DeletePraying that the Word IS communicated and that people would be roused from "flowery beds of ease" (see "Am I a Soldier of the Cross"). That's all I know to do.
Lots to be concerned about. Why do you have a half hour service, just so someone can tick the box of going to church off of their weekly schedule? Why not do a service on a different day/night instead?
ReplyDeleteI wonder, too. (see my reply to Sandi above.)
DeleteLyrics (Isaac Watts) Am I a Solder of the Cross
ReplyDeleteAm I a soldier of the cross,
A follow’r of the Lamb?
And shall I fear to own His cause,
Or blush to speak His name?
Must I be carried to the skies
On flow’ry beds of ease,
While others fought to win the prize,
And sailed through bloody seas?
Are there no foes for me to face?
Must I not stem the flood?
Is this vile world a friend to grace,
To help me on to God?
Sure I must fight if I would reign;
Increase my courage, Lord;
I’ll bear the toil, endure the pain,
Supported by Thy Word.
Thy saints in all this glorious war
Shall conquer, though they die;
They see the triumph from afar,
By faith’s discerning eye.
When that illustrious day shall rise,
And all Thy armies shine
In robes of vict’ry through the skies,
The glory shall be Thine.
Perhaps judgement is unnecessary, who knows, the shorter service may appeal to some and from there their faith begins to grow.
ReplyDeleteHi, Bean! How good to have you weigh in. I recognize the risk I take in expressing my concern that it be interpreted as judgement... I truly hope you are correct. That would be wonderful.
DeleteMy concern is how will these poor souls fit in heaven? So sad! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Sue
I'm sure it wasn't apparent in my post, but their souls BEING in heaven is my concern, too. In the end, we'll all be their by God's grace and through faith in Jesus, not in how long or how many church services were attended...
DeleteIt seems to be all about our feelings, our moods and sound bites!
ReplyDeleteSeems so to me, too...
