And he (Jesus) said to this disciple, "Here is your mother."
And from then on this disciple took her into his home. (John 19:27)
This is MY mother.
She is sitting in the hall of the nursing home
where I visit her at least 3-4 times a week
for 4-5 hours a visit.
When I read these words of Jesus to "this disciple" in the Gospel of John,
I can't help being conflicted about my mother's situation.
I am one of four siblings.
Our father lives independently just a few blocks from our mother
and eats lunch with her everyday.
I live an hour's drive away, the closest of the four of us....

It's complicated.
You've undertaken a huge commitment with your mother. Praying for peace in the midst of the challenges.
ReplyDeleteI've often thought about this passage too. Jesus had siblings, yet he entrusted Mary to John and she lived with him from then on. I wonder what His siblings thought about that - Mary obviously was okay with it. Where did Mary live before this? We know that others traveled with Jesus besides the 12, perhaps she was traveling with him? Lots to ponder.

Thinking of you and yours, too ♥
Life is certainly complicated. I will simply pray that you will hear the Lord's voice regarding the situation. I know that you love your mother...that fact shines brightly through your words!
