The Holy...Drawing Near

My father and mother holding hands in a recent chapel service.

Pay attention to the things that bring a tear to your eye or a lump in your throat;
they are signs that the holy is drawing near. ~ F.Buechner

So many tears in my eyes and lumps in my throat these days.
I don't mean to be a "Debbie Downer", but I am reassured by this quote.
I have sensed it; now I realize that indeed
the holy IS drawing near.

♪ Burdens Are Lifted at Calvary ♪

 Days are filled with sorrow and care,
Hearts are lonely and drear;
Burdens are lifted at Calvary,
Jesus is very near.

Refrain:
Burdens are lifted at Calvary,
Calvary, Calvary;
Burdens are lifted at Calvary,
Jesus is very near.

Cast your care on Jesus today,
Leave your worry and fear;
Burdens are lifted at Calvary,
Jesus is very near.

Troubled soul, the Saviour can see
Ev'ry heartache and tear;
Burdens are lifted at Calvary,
Jesus is very near.

  1. Ahhh..I love your post, Rebecca. The photo of your mom and dad holding hands, the quote by F. Buechner, and that lovely old hymn that I've oft hummed at some point in my life.

    I like how F.B. put it... that you can tell when the holy is drawing near. I can feel it in your post today.

    Blessings... hope you're doing okay... better than okay....getting well, well, well!

    1. Brenda, I am improving. I had a hematoma drained yesterday....and this morning it appears there is still more blood in the lump....so maybe will need a bit more drained. But overall, my recovery is going very well.

  2. Thank you Rebecca. I find I have more tears than usual lately. Not only tears of sadness, but also tears of thanksgiving in the presence of our Holy God.

  4. This is a wonderful post and such a beautiful picture of love. Yes... the tears, being in the presence of holiness. More often than not, I am brought to tears by mere observation. The witness of an act of kindness can take my breath away.

  5. Many are the times when, in my tears, I feel the most alive - the closest to the Holy. Powerful quote. My heart is with you today, friend.

  7. there are many types of tears...I found the most powerful and life changing are purging tears....when you release all your pain and will to the Lord. I experienced it myself and recently a friend has. My favorite are the happy tears. Your photo put a small tear in my eyes....it is such a symbol of love your dad ha for your mom and she for him.

  11. What a Beautiful Image you have Shared Today!!! And Thank You for Encouraging Words during your Blog Visit. My Meeting with the Doc was cancelled due to a Training Exercise on the Base which shut the Clinic down... just wish they'd notified all of us who had appointments so I didn't waste the whole Morning and a Trip to the Base! Guess I'll have to re-schedule that one. As for the Other Meeting, since the Young Prince is always Welcome and Accepted at the Salvation Army he will just spend even more time there at their Services and Programs... so it hasn't hindered his Faith Walk and for that I'm Glad. Blessings and a Hug coming to you from the Arizona Desert... Dawn... The Bohemian
