...and So Much More

My temporary bed in the living room from which I've met visitors and exercised by day and in which I sleep at night.
My husband
  • Single-handedly moved two large mattresses down to living room, stacking them so I could have a 1st floor "bedroom" when I got home from the hospital.
  • Tracked down a walker, bedside commode, portable shower seat and several other miscellaneous tools to make recovery easier.
  • Puts on the anti-embolic stockings for me (I can't bend past a 90 degree hip flexion).
  • Helps arrange my legs, blankets and pillows in the bed "just right".
  • Has picked up  sweet treats now and then on the way home from a meeting.
  • Has picked up so many things I've dropped for me when my frustration level reaches its peak or my "reacher" is not within reach.
  • Patiently rearranges the "clutter" that never used to bother me on the coffee table, etc. under my direction.
  • Goes after the cobwebs that magically appear overnight across the room from me.
  • Has done laundry and kept current with other household tasks.
  • Folds up and packs the walker in the car for my therapy outings.
  • Has never complained or sighed (audibly anyway, as far as I know).
  • Has helped lift a heavy leg up and into the bed.
  • Listens to me as I question and analyze each new pain and wonder if I've popped the ball out of the socket.
  • Drove a few miles while I was still in the hospital each morning to bring me coffee he'd brewed and share a morning devotional time with me as we normally do.
  • ...and SO MUCH MORE
...serve one another humbly in love. (Galatians 5:13)
My husband lives this injunction EVERY day,
but especially just now.

  4. This is so nice.....glad your husband is such a great helper! I guess we don't realize how much we depend on our own free and easy movement during the day.

  5. Hi Rebecca,
Glad to hear you are home from the hospital and starting your recovery.....sounds like you have a terrific male nurse...........what a blessing it is to have a Godly hubby..........It is hard and rather humbling (if I remember correctly from when I went thru a time like that) to have to depend on them like that because we are so used to being the caretakers, but it makes it so much easier when they have such a servant heart. God's Blessings on both of you, and love that sweet praise for your hubby, cause he deserves it. Statistics prove not many men stand by their women in difficult times
like that, most women do, but not such a good report for most men, so this was inspirational to
hear............I am sure you cherish this sweet man...................

Hope your recovery is very quick hon,
    Blessings, Nellie

  7. Don't stress about popping the ball out of the socket, yes it can happen, but it is extremely rare. My Dad super stressed about it with his first hip replacement, so I can perhaps imagine your worries. Do know that as each week goes by you will feel better and better. Six weeks out from surgery the walker will be long gone, and although 3 months sounds like a chunk of time, but by the time you hit 3 months out it will be like nothing happened you will be walking, bike riding, hiking, fully functional and feeling good.
Praying for you daily, but know that once the first two weeks are behind you the worst is over. Hang in there Rebecca.

And, I would like to offer to come over and do whatever household chores need done, will gladly vacuum, dust, clean a bathroom, or wash a floor, please let me know and I will be there.

    Blessings to you,

    Bean

    1. Do you get this response? You've helped me more than you'll know by your reassuring words and experience based on your father's replacements. We're getting along well. I kind of overdid a couple of days ago when all my siblings gathered at my father's place. I was kind of showing off using a cane (the PT had just showed me how to use it when I told her I wondered if I was ready to try it 'cause the walker was going so well....) I worked out a new set of muscles, etc. and paid for it the next day. Your words are reassuring and helpful.

  15. Rebecca, It's been far too long since my last visit, so I've been catching up. And what a treat.
But first, I am sorry about the slip on the ice and all ensuing events. I pray that your recovery will be divinely supervised and that you will be restored and whole again.

Lovely to be with you...thanks for stopping by my place.
