The Twelfth Man in my Huddle

God is kind, but he's not soft.
In kindness he takes us firmly by the hand and leads us into a radical life change.
Romans 2:4
So tweeted Kay Warren this morning.

There is a phrase used in football sometimes - "the Twelfth Man in the Huddle".
According to Wikipedia, the first recorded use of the term was in the November 1912 edition of The Iowa Alumnus, an alumni publication of the University of Iowa (then known as State University of Iowa).   E.A. McGowan described the 1903 game between Iowa and the University of Illinois this way:  "The eleven men had done their best;
but the twelfth man on the team (the loyal spirited Iowa rooter) had won the game for old S.U.I."
In 2012, I successfully navigated a radical life change.
Looking back, I have to say, I did my best*....but it was the Twelfth Man who
"won the game for old R.L.G."!

God IS kind, but He's NOT soft!
It's reassuring to know He has me "firmly by the hand".
I'm wondering what radical life changes He has in store for me in 2013?

How have YOU experienced the Twelfth Man in YOUR huddle this past year????

*Well, almost.

  1. Just this week, an old teaching friend and I reconnected after about 7 years. Had just lost track through job changes and less in common, physical distance, etc. but God was involved in our connecting. Over a four hour lunch catching up, we learned we shared a heartache. As our stories unfolded, I saw WHY were brought together and felt Divine Intervention at work.
Defintely Another at the lunch huddle!

  4. I couldn't have made it through this year without Him and since the journey is continuing I am glad He will be with me this coming year. My flesh doesn't have the strength

    1. Nor does mine ("flesh....have the strength), Janette. The arm of flesh WILL fail us. We dare not trust our own. (Those last two sentences are from the old song, "Stand Up, Stand Up for Jesus". Do you remember it, or are you too young?)

  5. Radical life changes . . . I'm not sure what's in store for 2013, but I'm ready to walk into it. 2012 has been a tough year. I am grateful for the certainty and assurance of Jesus Christ who huddles close by and always has a plan for my next "play" in the game.

Blessings and peace as you crossover into God's next for you in this coming season.
