Singing and Making Melody

Music is an important part of my life.
Recently I found these books of piano solos at a thrift store.
I enjoyed the arrangements themselves as well as the memories of
Gloria Roe  and Don Wyrtzen that I associate with them...
I did a little bit of song writing myself last week!
I put the words of Proverbs 19:23 to a simple tune.
(I fill in the bass as I play it and may write those notes in at a later date...)
"The fear of the Lord leads to life.  Then one rests content, untouched by trouble"  Proverbs 19:23.
To me, "fearing the Lord" means trusting and obeying Him with abandon.
THAT leads to life.  That results in contentment and peace - being unruffled by trouble.

I used to put many verses to music as an aid to memorization when I coached a teens'
Bible quiz team.  The words & tunes come back to me frequently,
I think I shall set a goal of putting a tune to a verse every week
with the hope of memorizing some new Bible verses in 2013.
Wow!  That would be 52 verses!

  1. Isn't it amazing how memory is aided by music? Wonderful idea to put tunes to the Words of Life!

  2. That's a really great idea Rebecca. Especially if it's a catchy tune! It does make memorizing easier. I know that I have memorized bible verses through hymns unconsciously! Love Di ♥

  3. Hi Rebecca:

I'm so glad I hopped over here today. Don Wyrtzen and his sister Christine, went to the same Christian high school I went to in Florida, lots of preachers and missionaries kids! What a talent.

Your blog is always so beautifully done. I am tech challenged and afraid to change anything, when I changed my page it went away! :)

    1. Oh, Sonja....What a blessing to have gone to school with these PK's & MK's. (I know there were quite a few at Moody when I was there, too.)

And per the the blog tech - well, first of all, thank you. I experiment a lot. And I wish I lived closer. I'd show you some of what I've learned. I was surprised that I could teach myself w/o major disasters :) Yours is JUST fine. No changes necessary. It's the content that I come for anyway!

  4. Hi Rebecca,
What a wonderful idea, and gift you have there. I have seen many scripture
verses that singing or musical groups have set to music and I just love that,
cause you are killing 2 birds with one stone, enjoying unlifting music, but
also hiding God's word in your heart all at the same time.
Hope you are doing well hon,
    blessings, Nellie

  6. What a beautiful idea Rebecca! I am not musical myself but very much appreciate the gift in others! When we moved into the home we live in now, the previous owner left behind a piano as no one wanted it even for free! So perhaps one day I will try to learn, I think it is so beautiful.:)

  10. When I had older girls in my Sunday School class, I put tunes to lots of verses for us all to sing. I hope as those girls grow older that those songs stay in their hearts....to sing when they need them.
