Come Closer

I woke up rather abruptly at 2:50 this morning.   Two words were strongly present in my mind.  No voice.  Nothing visual.  Just a strong impression as real as if they HAD been spoken.  "Come closer."

"Come closer."  I tried to connect them.  Maybe with a dream I'd been experiencing?  Nothing.  Just  "Come closer."  I didn't go back to sleep right away -- thinking about how the closer one gets to an object, the more details become visible.  Was God inviting me to discover more about Himself?  Could He just be inviting me "closer" because He is interested in my company? I fell back to sleep wondering....

I woke and went about my morning plans...meeting with Bean for coffee and then to Donna's to make some salsa.  What a good time I had being with these special women!

And now I'm home.  The invitation remains clear and persistent.  "Come closer."  And with them, three songs.
1. Thou my everlasting portion,
 more than friend or life to me,
 all along my pilgrim journey,
 Savior, let me walk with thee.
2. Not for ease or worldly pleasure,
 nor for fame my prayer shall be;
 gladly will I toil and suffer,
 only let me walk with thee.
 Close to thee, close to thee,
 close to thee, close to thee,
 all along my pilgrim journey,
 Savior, let me walk with thee.

1.   I am Thine, O Lord, I have heard Thy voice,
And it told Thy love to me;
But I long to rise in the arms of faith
And be closer drawn to Thee.

2.  Consecrate me now to Thy service, Lord,
By the power of grace divine;
Let my soul look up with a steadfast hope,
And my will be lost in Thine.

3.  O the pure delight of a single hour
That before Thy throne I spend,
When I kneel in prayer, and with Thee, my God
I commune as friend with friend!
 Nearer, my God, to Thee, nearer to Thee!
E’en though it be a cross that raiseth me,
Still all my song shall be, nearer, my God, to Thee.
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee!
I'm thankful for some quiet hours this afternoon.   Hours to "Come closer".  I'm not sure what He has planned for me, but I'm expecting something unique and personal--the "pure delight of a single hour to spend before His throne....communing as friend with friend"!

  1. You are blessed to hear His call; He calls every person on earth, but many say no in answer or don't hear. You heard and said yes.
    The angels rejoice about your yes, and I love these hymns too.

  3. Nothing quite compares to His calling us away to be with Him. Enjoy your special times together. As Rebecca said, it is really amazing that the God of the universe would actually want to be alone with us! What love!

  5. That was almost scary! I would have wondered if my mom was calling me or something. But I have actually felt the Lord holding my hand in times of trouble so who knows, maybe he was trying to tell you something. When I saw the beautiful photos from your garden (I love the second one!) I thought maybe he left a surprise out there for you this morning and wanted you to closely examine your flowers! Oh my mind works oddly doesn't it? Anyway this was a great post Rebecca and it's so good spending time with friends. Maybe he wanted you to be closer with your friends! Love Di ♥
    P.S. I took photos of my apartment for you. I'll be posting soon. ;)

    1. Can't wait to see those photos, Di!

      And there was nothing scary about it for me (thankfully). I just found it puzzling and reassuring at the same time.

  7. I love the pictures and the lyrics. All morning Fur Elise has been in my head and I have been whistling it... and I don't really even know the song! Hopefully now, one of yours will get stuck in my head!

    1. Oh....Fur Elise is very cool! One of my favorites to play on the piano. I have arrangements of it at various levels so that my piano students can play it early - or later with more complicated arrangements....

  8. This is a precious post, and the hymns are some of the ones I love. It is true that God is calling people to be closer to Him in this season. He is looking for an army of intercessors that He awakens middle of the night to give throne room secrets to. Isn't it thrilling that He is inviting you to join Him?

  14. My dear Rebecca
    Thank you for your visit to my blog, and for your concern. DO pray for our nation, more than a million people were displaced by the floods, 90 towns in Luzon including Metro Manila were under water, and the state of calamity has been declared over 11 areas. I wrote a bit about it on my blog just this morning.

    Blessings, and much love to you

  17. I listened to a message yesterday from Cornerstone Baptist Church....the preacher said this: You will love Jesus like you should when you want to love Jesus like you should.
    It's a choice.
    It's a choice for every day.
    We can't choose one time and be taken care of for the rest of our days.

  18. Thanks for bringing those beautiful "old" hymns to mind; wasn't Nearer My God To Thee the hymn that the band played as the Titanic was sinking? I guess they played until they themselves went under--what dedication to encouragement.
