Confidence AND Song

I watched the first American Idol show of 2012.  I felt bad for the contestant who boldly (but badly) belted out his song.  I kind of felt sorry for the judges, too!  They looked at each other, silently begging one another to deliver the verdict.

Finally, someone did.  The confident, but less than talented contestant was told,  "I'm sorry.  You got the confidence.  You just don't have the song!"  That pretty well summed up the situation.  The dejected contestant left the room.  The judges looked down at the table and shook their heads.

For some reason, the phrase stuck with me--"You got the confidence.  You just don't have the song."  (By the way, the poor grammar was the judge's; not mine.)  I think I wanted to remember it because my Heavenly Father offers me BOTH. Confidence AND song!

With the Psalmist, I can say, "My heart is confident in you, O God; no wonder I can sing your praises with all my heart!" (Psalm 108:1)

Our February mantel.  Not sure if I have the "song" here...
When it comes to many other subjects, I lack BOTH confidence AND song!  For example, I enjoy seeing other peoples' decorating projects.  I THINK I can "hear" the song...I LOVE to "hear" the song!  But when it comes to "singing" it for myself, I have no confidence.

It's true about other things, too.  But when it comes to Jesus, I really want the verdict to be, "You've got the confidence AND you have the song!"  Fact is, that IS the verdict.  He IS my confidence.  He IS my song.

  4. Yes, Rebecca, I guess that's true about a great many of us. So many situations in life where we lack both the confidence and the song.
Jesus is the one area in our lives that we can be assured we have both!

    Have a Blessed Sunday!
    Love and Prayers,
    Eileen
PS ~ You can be confident that you got the song right with your mantel. Lovely!

  6. You are the best at taking life and applying it to our God. I loved this. I have yet to watch Idol. I always wait until the competition starts. I cannot take the auditions. I feel too bad for the ones who are made to look foolish.

  7. Confidence and song, I like that. This is such a good post, so honest. You strike me as being a very confident woman, and quite talented and gifted too. But your transparency here touches me. Thank you for sharing your heart.

The mantel looks great. I love tins!

  8. Very well put, Rebecca, you've got the song and the gift of writing. And you're probably a better decorator than you think.
I'm so glad that God is my confidence, too. It's because of Him that I came out of my shell that criticism and hatefulness had crammed me into and like you, I can confidently say today, "Jesus Christ is my confidence and my song." It all hangs on Him and His abilities, not me and my lack thereof.
    Love and hugs, Cindy

  10. Great post...so well said. I too lack confidence in many things, probably because I will hear the enemy's voice more than my Saviors. Thanks for singing out this morning and letting it speak to my heart...great word.
