I Go to the Rock

Where do I go when there's nobody to turn to?
Who do I talk to when no one wants to listen?
Who do I lean on when there's no foundation stable?
I go to the Rock--
I know he is able--I go to the Rock.
stuff
This morning I thought I needed to "go" somewhere.
My heart was calling me to a little "retail therapy."
(Well, not retail exactly--but thrift store therapy anyway...)
Then I remembered I still had this stuff in the back seat of my car
from a trip to My Favorite Thrift Store over a week ago!
Obviously, the thrift store is not the place to turn to
when the heart is restless.
Then I remembered this song!
I'm going to The Rock instead.
more stuff
Where do I go when the storms of life are threatening?
Who do I turn to when those winds of sorrow blow?
And is there a refuge in the time of tribulation?
I go to to the Rock--
I know he is able--I go to the Rock.

Chorus
I go to The Rock for my salvation
I go to the Stone that the builders rejected
I run to the Mountain and the Mountain stands by me
When the earth all around me is sinking sand
On Christ, the solid Rock I stand
When I need a shelter, when I need a friend
I go to The Rock.

  1. Good choice Rebecca....nothing can bring that deep internal peace we seek except the rock. I find I enjoy my thrifting more when I have been to the rock first.

  2. Beautiful, Rebecca! (I like your 'thrift therapy', but I like better the fact that you know where your strength and renewal lies!)

I've been thinking about you a lot, and I think it's human nature to become discouraged, and when we are dealing with BIG issues it's so easy to let even the little 'nothing' things in life become irritating or discouraging (as you know I've been letting the little nothing things irritate me!). But discouragement is a far cry from despair. Despair is a tool of Satan, despair causes us to lose Faith.
And you are a Faithful sister, and I pray your Faith remains strong, for your Faith has lifted me so many times, more than you know.

    God Bless you.
    Love and Prayers,
    Eileen

    1. My dear friend, thank you for your prayers. I think you're right in differentiating between discouragement and despair. I am not in despair! He IS my Rock. He is my Deliverer!

  3. Thanks for reminding me of this wonderful song....and reminding me I have to much stuff already to seek more....I have been on a weeding process for over a year....still working on it and most likely will continue as long as I am alive....it truly is an on going process. Ridding myself of the baggage that isn't truly needed..inside and out....blessings

  5. 'at ole song... loved it years ago... a great memory blast as I haven't heard it recently! Thanks for sharing!

I like the way you describe it...'thrift store therapy'...

He sure knows the right things that will be that pick-me-up for any given moment.

  6. My "retail therapy" is thrift stores, too. I found a great suit....Liz Claiborne....jacket and skirt....for $4.00 last seek!!! I was thrilled...and it was washable....so it got worn to church yesterday!!! ;-) I love your post today....I get restless sometimes, too and turn to the wrong thing....such as food...when I should turn to HIM. I read a verse in Job yesterday that is my prayer for this week....Job 23:12.....I have treasured the words of His mouth more than my daily food. Except, I have to pray....I want to treasure....'cause sometimes the food takes priority, I hate to admit!!! Okay....I've rattled on enough!!! HOPE you have a great day!!!

  7. Love the photos of your thrift store finds.
I don't know if you've done this or not...but using those cardboard puzzles, you can turn them into a two-for-one. Write multiplication facts on the back of a puzzle piece and write its corresponding product on correct portion of the tray on the puzzle. Children can put the puzzle together by knowing their facts...or simply by using the photo on the front. (This works for addition, subtraction, and division facts as well.)
    Hugs and love to you,
    Jackie

  8. I got a couple 1000 piece puzzles for FREE recently, given away at a used furniture store of all places. I'd like to set up a card table so I could leave it out to work on for "puzzle therapy" but with kids around 1/2 the time??? I haven't heard that song in years! What would we do without the ROCK!

    1. When we visited missionary friends in Africa years ago, they did puzzles on the dining table. Simply put a table cloth over it when time to eat! They had limited space - no extra tables, etc. I was fascinated!
