Broken Things

First, it was the lid to one of my tureens...
Then it was the saucer.
Broken.
One due to haste and carelessness.
The other?  Clumsiness of age, I suppose.
I HATE it when this happens.
I'm kinda waiting for the "other shoe to drop"!
I had to toss the saucer,
but I'm clinging to hope of finding a lid for the tureen.
My recent experiences with breaking things
reminds me of the One who mends and heals the brokenhearted--
regardless of cause..

"He is the healer of the brokenhearted. He is the one who bandages their wounds."
(Psalm 147:3)
And my response to Him?
I will serve Thee because I love Thee.
You have given life to me.
I was nothing before You found me;
You have given life to me.
Heartaches, broken pieces,
Ruined lives are why You died on Calvary.
Your touch was what I longed for.
You have given life to me.
(Words to the song I Will Serve Thee)

Have YOU dropped anything lately?
Come on.  Make me feel better!
More importantly,
Have you any broken pieces within yourself?
He died on Calvary for those broken pieces!
Don't throw them away.  Take them to Him for mending.

  1. This is so sweet, Rebecca. We are all broken in some way, aren't we? But...God. He mends the brokenhearted! I am so grateful for His full salvation. Sorry about your lovely broken dishes. I did break something the other day that made me very sad for the rest of the day. It was my mother's beautiful and ornate glass candy dish which she'd had for so many years. When she passed I put it in my china cabinet and accidently knocked it out while reaching for another dish.It was special to me and I only used it at Christmastime, as she did.

  2. So many things dropped and broken over the years here, Rebecca. And a shattered heart and soul over the years too. But you are so right, God Has Mended the broken pieces of my life far better than I could have on my own.
    Very nice post.

And I hope you do find a top for your beautiful tureen!
    Love and Prayers,
    Eileen

    1. Oh, I'm a chipper, too, Dee! And like you, if I break one glass, another DOES follow. I'm relieved somehow - knowing there's someone else who has these experiences.

  5. What a great post. And I've learned not to get mad at the breaker -- it's not worth it -- it can either be fixed or pitched and another purchased. The hurt at being mad isn't worth it!

  6. Oh I have to tell you a story. Your Currier & Ives saucer? Well Bob's mom had a set of these dishes for years and years and decided to get rid of them. She took them all out of her (immaculate) cupboard, washed and dried them, put them in a box, and put them on the curb. Then she had a good time watching the sanitation worker pack them into his cab. It would be a nice story except that I had asked for them!!! I'm sure you'll be able to find a replacement. Hopefully you can find a new lid for the tureen as well! I drop things all the time now...my right thumb doesn't work too well anymore..I think something was damaged when I had surgery on my elbow a couple years ago! Broken pieces within me? Well my heart was broken when Don got his cancer diagnosis...truly God is the glue that holds all things together (Col. 1:17) Great post!
