It's a Wonderful Life!

Empty tables; all ready for our guests.
Didn't the garage clean up well?
A couple of space heaters kept our garage at a perfect temperature for the 16 people who
shared a wonderful meal.  The buffet line was set up on workbenches!  My father and mother led the way.
Young and old shared the tables.  Conversation and laughter abounded.
In addition to pies my sister brought from Bakers Square (Chicago area). Paula Deen baked a birthday cake for my father who will be 84 on Sunday!  (Paula sells her cakes at our local WalMart.)  Of course there was turkey, ham, my mother's warm & sweet mustard, dressing, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, tossed salad, 3 layered jello salad, and dinner rolls.
"With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation." Psalm 91:16
After desserts, tables were cleared and we played several card games, rhythm, charades,  and a special thanksgiving game where all the turkeys gobbled when they found candy corn hidden around the room.
I hope YOUR Thanksgivings Day was as special as ours.  Except that two of our children and their families were unable to join us, it was a near-perfect day.
Thanks to many of you who expressed your concerns and assured me of your prayers.
I will sleep well tonight.
It's a wonderful life.

  1. Wow -- I was wondering how you put on such an elaborate day in your physical condition (I've been praying about that by the way). Then I backed up to yesterday and see that Gary helped save the day. Still . . . plenty demanding for you under the circumstances. Blessings on you and Gary for helping create a memorable day for your family. Glad it was such a special time.

  9. Loved reading about your fantastic day! The day our garage would be clean enough to host a Thanksgivng dinner in it will be the day we are celebrating in our heavenly mansion...!!

Your menu was similar to ours...so wonderful having the generations together isn't it!

That was a great idea to have the print of the man praying (Grace I think is the name of the painting?) Great atmosphere you created here!

Are you feeling any better yet? (I hope and pray)

  10. Wow, that is a nice-looking garage! You decorated wonderfully! We had Thanksgiving on the road because of attending this wedding in another state. I didn't like to do that, but since it couldn't be helped, we made the best of it. My son did make the surprise trip home and we shared many informal meals together ever since Saturday night when Emma walked in to "Granny's" and was soon asking for "ronies" (macaroni and cheese) just like before she moved to Colorado! Having them back was truly something to be thankful for!

  11. What a wonderful gathering of thanks! I couldn't think of a more lovely setting. The two of you are a very special couple and it shows in all you do together.
We don't even have electricity in our garage, the wiring that runs underground somehow broke and we have to have it repaired in the spring. No parties in there!
Thank you for sharing all the joy!
