Last week a young friend of mine who is about 8 months pregnant commented about being overwhelmed with the prospect of cleaning her house. I'd been trying to think of a way to express my love for her, so I asked her if she would be open to help. When she said "yes", I began to round up a cleaning crew!
This morning Donna (of Donna's Booknook) joined me and two other ladies. Donna dusted, took down a Christmas tree, helped scrub the kitchen floor, took down curtains and put in washing machine, ran the vacuum and probably more!

Indeed it a was a day well spent. I would have loved to have been one of your crew.

How did your friend receive this? Years ago when one of my sisters had just given birth and the family was having a shower for her at her house, mom and I went over to clean the day before so she wouldn't have to and she told us we made her feel like her house was filthy! I've always felt bad about that. Graciousness is needed both on the giving and the receiving end, isn't it? I have so many of the family functions at my house and I would love it if someone came to help me clean the day before! I think it was a wonderful thing that you did!

DIANA & ELAINE, I think I missed my "calling"!
ReplyDeleteShould have gone into the cleaning business long ago! I fear it is too late. My knees are still stiff from hands & knee scrubbing and I had a horrific (unusual for me) headache Friday - I attribute it to the fumes from the aerosol cleaner I used in the bathroom. I don't know if I could convince Donna out of retirement and I KNOW I couldn't do this by myself. So, don't hold your breath.
You know what they say--cleanliness should start at home! I still have areas to clean in my humble abode. Would be willing to help you though Rebecca, if you decide it's your calling! (smiles) Donna
