End of Vacation Day 1

Our day included the beauty of nature as we saw trees in various shades of orange, yellow, red and green along the route.  We stopped at two favorite thrift stores.  Among the books I bought were these two art books.  A fifty-cent small white pitcher was another buy....We stopped to eat at a restaurant we frequented when we lived near Kalamazoo several years ago.  I do like liver and onions, but I had salmon instead.  It was delicious.  We stopped at Barnes and Noble Bookstore where I read some new magazines and a few decorating books that intrigued me - one featured rustic Irish interiors.  We checked into a motel in Paw Paw, MI.  I then arranged to meet an old friend at a coffee house.  We had a good time catching up.  Now I'll read Three Cups of Tea while my husband watches football.  We'll begin tomorrow by surprising some old friends at coffee in the morning. "Coffee" is a whole post in itself!

  2. You just described the perfect day to me...a little bit of nature, I would have bought the small pitcher too, baked salmon with wild rice and sweet squash is my favorite meal, I could spend all day viewing books at Barnes and Noble, and the searching and making of GOOD coffee is almost a hobby of mine.

Vacation day 1 sounds very relaxing! :)

  4. Three Cups of Tea is on my list of books to read. I have read several reviews. It is wonderful to read of "ordinary" people that have made such a difference. Although I doubt that there is anything ordinary about Greg Mortenson.

How long will you be on vacation? Enjoy.

  6. I wish I COULD bring you all along with me. Although the weather wasn't so great yesterday, Michigan is a beautiful state, and autumn is a beautiful season.

My husband is asymptomatic. So he's enjoying himself, too. (I just worry about those high blood pressure numbers that register each time he takes it!)

Brenda, it's taking me a long time to get through the book. I have a hard time reading a book when there are foreign sounding names and places. They are like speed bumps in my reading. I have difficulty retaining them and connecting them from page to page. Still the story is a great one and I REALLY want to finish it and move on to another!

  7. You really are back in your old 'stompin grounds', aren't you? I trust you'll have a great vacation. Glad your hubby is feeling OK.

  8. Hi Rebecca,
I am happy that at least your husband is feeling alright. I would have ordered the liver and onoins. I love it but I don't make it often as I am the only one to eat it. When my son still live at home he would eat it with me!
It sounds like you had a good day! My husband is home with the shingles!
    Love Di

  9. Dearest Rebecca, Not sure if my comment made it through...I wanted to thank you for your lovely comment. I have been slowly making my way around to see my dear friends and to let them know that I am going off-line until I am no longer on the heavy pain killers. I go in for my surgery early tomorrow. But I did want you to know that you will be in my heart and thoughts!! And that I will miss visiting with you...you always leave me with such encouraging, and uplifting thoughts and meditations!! I thank God for you and for the recent friendship He's forged...a friendship that doesn't feel recent, but rather feels long-term and deep. I'm so glad you had such a wonderful time away!! The art books were a wonderful deal, and look so very beautiful!! And time with your terrific husband, and a dear friend? Well, that's just as good as it gets!! All my love to you! Welcome home! You were missed! Love to you today and always, Janine XO

  10. I am so happy you are taking us with you on your trip. I am praying hubby stays healthy and that the trip will do him well. I just want to add..not sure why..and you probably already do this..but it is good to always have two asprins with you..if hubby shows any signs of problems have him chew them right away. I always keep them because of Frank and have never had to use them :) but i have them just if needed. May God bless your trip with sunshine, beauty, good friends, giggles and snuggles. Dee
