Jesus May Come Today

(Harry Ostrom, 19th Century)
For some reason, this old gospel song came to my mind while I walked early this morning. Jesus MAY come today! What hope! What perspective this truth brings to my heart and mind today!

Jesus may come today,
Glad day! Glad day!
And I would see my Friend;
Dangers and troubles would end
If Jesus should come today...

I may go home today,
Glad day! Glad day!
Seemeth I hear their song;
Hail to the radiant throng!
If I should go home today...

Why should I anxious be?
Glad day! Glad day!
Lights appear on the shore,
Storms will affright nevermore,
For He is at hand today...

Faithful I'll be today,
Glad day! Glad day!
And I will freely tell
Why I should love Him so well,
For He is my all today...

Glad day! Glad day! Is it the crowning day?
I'll live for today, nor anxious be,
Jesus, my Lord, I soon shall see;
Glad day! Glad day!
Is it the crowning day?

  1. We have had a series of storms this morning interrupting my computer time!

    I am always pondering the same question Rebecca...when and where to reply...this morning I came directly here when I saw your very recent comment. If some one asks a question at my blog, I assume they will be checking back in for the reply. Recently I reply back to several visitors all in "one rely comment"...seems easier for me anyway.

    I'm not familiar with your hymn...I have an old hymn book from 1939 that belonged to my grandmother...it's pages are golden with age...I love to thumb through it.

    It's storming again and more on the way from across Indiana! :)
    Take care,

  2. Life is (or should be) all about being ever ready to meet Our Saviour, but we get so distracted and forget all the blessings and goodness there is for us to do every day!

  6. My "heart" is happy because so many of you share the expectation and hope with me! Bernie, that's why I love the last stanza - "Faithful I'll be today...."! You are so right. EVERY day should be treated as if "today is the day."

  7. Thanks for posting Henry Ostrom's second coming hymn. (Not quite 19th century. It was written around 1910.) Perhaps the reason it came to mind is that Christ, who entered human history once in a lowly manger, has promised to return--and will do so as a conquering King.
