Saturday Garden Walk

This morning's sunrise was quickly overcome by dark clouds. A loud and aggressive downpour quickly followed. By the time we needed to leave for the garden walk, the rain had stopped, so we set out.
In a flowerbed of the first garden we visited, we spotted two reindeer fashioned out of rebar. I took the picture with the hope that a friend who welds will be able to help my husband construct a pair for our yard!
The unique part of one yard/garden was the inclusion of a Civil War era cemetery. The owner was summering his large collection of orchids among the tombstones that were on his property.
Perhaps my favorite yard was this one. Here is a view of the side of the garage. A variety of blooms were complemented by bright, happy colors painting the benches, chairs and other garden accents throughout the yard. I came home with many ideas and an uplifted spirit having seen many beautiful flowers and garden features.
We stopped for lunch at a favorite restaurant just as the power went off. They were unable to serve us, so we drove to the edge of town to a small, quaint establishment. Sandra D's is a 5-star restaurant and I'd heard it was expensive. We decided to stop and check it out anyway. My salad was wonderful. Husband enjoyed his pasta dish. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was cozy--little white lights, bricks with ivy painted on the wall, etc. The prices were reasonable. We will definitely return soon! We highly recommend a visit to Sandra D's Italian Garden in Auburn, IN!

  4. It WAS a sweet morning, Diana. I'm glad we didn't get "scared" of the weather. Wanda, we decided that REAL gardeners would understand the value of this rain. Eileen, you're SO kind about "my" picture. I've never liked photos of myself. I'm trying to get over being so self-conscious.

  7. Thanks for sharing your pics. I'm really going to have to get out more to "smell the roses". I will need to do something to relax when I get home. It's been a very busy time, getting Tim re-established in the 'free' world. I'm feeling a little overwhelmed, hoping i can get everything done in the next few days. Also loved your post on "wary" and "weary".
