Which Came First? The Chicken or the Egg?

I never realized just how beautiful a chicken could be! I visited my friend yesterday and toured her small organic egg operation. This black & white striped hen stood out in contrast to the majority which were the gold color seen in the background.

Each hen had such a personality! The freshly gathered eggs sat like a piece of fine art in the gathering basket, and I was gifted with a dozen to take home for our eating pleasure.

  1. I have come across the same feelings expressed on other blogs...the often overlooked beauty of chickens...some look very exoctic with their plumage.

  2. Oh aren't organic eggs delicious?

I am glad that you enjoyed visiting your friend's farm. When I go to the farms around the area, they are so generous, they just share and share their bounty ;-)

ps: stop by and pick up a lovely award for your blog!

Of course, I also wish my computer would stop balking at getting me online, so I could get my comments posted!

  4. Hello Rebecca,
Love this post, I have always enjoyed having chickens, and have had them most of my married life. My grandmother had chickens and I spent a lot of time at her home watching her care for hers and just developed a love for them. The organic eggs taste so much better than regular ones. I love the sound of a rooster crowing and a hen cackling after laying a egg.. Such a great post.
    Hugs,

  6. How nice! I've always liked chickens and roosters for some reason (especially baby chicks!), and that hen was beautiful! And those eggs look great.
I'll have two, over easy, please!
    Nice post!
