Busy Saturday and One Tired Grandma

My husband and I indulged in a feast for the eyes yesterday--a housewalk in the Southwood Park Neighborhood of Fort Wayne. ARCH’s Annual Home and Garden Tour raises money for its mission of preservation and identification of historical architecture in the city.

Every home on the walk had its unique style. We saw lovely antiques, fascinating art, and individual tastes in decorating. Pictured above are three of the nine or ten houses we saw. (One was an amazing 13,000 sq. ft. mansion!) The lawns and gardens were also very interesting. We enjoyed every minute of our time. We gathered many ideas for our own home and garden and had a late lunch at one of our favorite restaurants, Casa D'Angelos, before heading home.

I left in the late afternoon to meet our daughter and her family. Abigail and Titus quickly moved their seats into the backseat of my car and we made the hour and a half trip home. The trip passed with happy chatter. These will be exciting days for Grandma as they stay with us for a few days.

  1. Years ago we use to tour newly built homes during an event here called "Homarama"...they were fully furnished...with table settings and accessories as if someone lived there...in later years they became mansions in size...in door pools and gyms...Just lost interest in going...would much rather tour older homes as you did...
Rowan@Circle of the Year shows beautiful old buildings and churches in England at her blog...You may enjoy her site.

Enjoy your visit with Abigail and Titus!

  2. Yes, the older homes are our favorites. There are at least 4 house walks annually in various neighborhoods in Fort Wayne. House and garden walks are one of the few recreational pleasures that we actually pay for :) Thanks for the link to Rowan, too.

  3. I would so love a tour like that! I'm so much more interested in older homes, and homes of more 'regular folk' rather than the mansions that the elite live in. It's funny how your tastes changes as you get older, when I was little I was all about castles, and even into my teens and twenties, it was about the 'rich and famous', and now that holds no interest for me at all.
A few years ago my sister-in-law and I toured the tenement museum in Manhattan, I LOVED it! And we did the Irish one (the cottage that was transported here from Ireland), and I also love going to Gettysburg, oh, and to tour Amish country! These are my passions now!
Thanks so much for sharing this!
Have a great time with the grandkids! Enjoy!

  4. Well Rebecca I know that I would be tired after all of that walking, but it sounds fascinating to me. I do enjoy looking into other peoples homes and lives! I hope you have a great time with your grandchildren. I guess you can rest after they leave! Have fun!
