A Painful Process

a corner in our bedroom...
I'm an advocate of reading; inspired books helped me get out of my muddled-head, like opened windows to the sea.

Read two old books for every new one. - J.I. Packer

We're busy downsizing, consolidating, organizing and decluttering in preparation for a small remodeling project
(adding closets to make a general room into a bedroom).
Part of the process means a paring down of the book collection.
It is painful!
This morning I worked on these shelves.
I came up with one box of books to donate to a local thrift store.
In the process, I found several old, inspired books to re-read...
treasures from Nouwen, Lindbergh, and Stoddard, for example.
The two taller shelves here hold (maybe) 1/5 of our books.
Note the smaller shelf hugging the wall
and stack of books on the shelf under the lamp.
I'm about halfway through the sorting.
~Did I already say it's a painful process?~

  1. It can be hard to weed books, and of course, you found some treasures to save and re-read. Someone else will enjoy the books you give away.

    1. I confess. It DID feel good to free up some shelf space :)

  2. I never like to get rid of books. I always remember something that was in them that I know I wanted to read again or that I know someone will need to read at sometime.

  3. Oh I feel for you. It is a love/hate job for sure. We all need to weed, but then you sit down with books and get lost in pages all over again. But you will be happy when you are finished...don't be afraid to cut deep and share your books with others. More will come your way I am sure!!!!

And, hey! It's good to hear from you.
      I need to be updated.

And believe me, some of mine ARE twaddle.

  5. Yes, a very painful process. I always remind myself there is a public library available for new books weekly to grace my room and what fun would a thrift store be if I had no room to bring home a book or two?

    1. Oh, yes - I must remind myself about that very last part!
