Can't Wait to Try It!

Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone
--especially to those in the family of faith.  (Galatians 6:10)

We were on the receiving end again last night!  My husband came home from the Awana meeting with this jar and note of explanation.

Pastor Gary and Rebecca, I made this apple butter Saturday with Jen and her family and her mother's neighbor who is 89 years old.  It's a family tradition.  First we cleaned 100 pennies and put them in bottom of a 100 year old copper pot over an open fire.  We stirred it for 9 hour and canned it outside.  It was an awesome experience and thought you two would like to try some.  Oh.  I forgot to tell you.  We peeled and cored over 1,110 apples!!!  Enjoy.

I think we WILL enjoy it!  Later today, I'm going to have an opportunity to share some of our furniture with a young woman recently released from prison.  She is setting up her apartment.  She has come to faith in Jesus and is officially in my "family of faith".   I can't wait to see what (if anything) she can use.

 1.  a fresh, new day on which to write my thanks...and life and breath to write it with...
2 . beautiful weather yesterday and forecast for the same today!
 3.  opportunities to do good AND my family of faith.

  3. Rebecca,

Do they can the pennies in the apple butter? Is there a reason for that?

Thank you for sharing your furniture finds! I am excited for N to have a place of her own. It is a blessing to see how friends have joined to help this young woman. I am inspired and proud of Donna. She answered a request and then followed through and is having an eternal impact in this one life and possibly the lives of two children as well. What more could any of us desire?

  4. Brenda, I'm just quoting the note :) I never thought about the 100 pennies being in the apple butter. Surely NOT! Must have to strain them out!

  6. Mmmmm, apple butter!! I still remember the first time my mom gave some to me on toast. I was hooked ever since!
The timing of this post is pretty neat. I used to work out everyday a few years back with a sweet woman. Every year she and her family would gather to make loads of apple butter in her yard!! I ran into her today at the mall and we got all caught up!
I'm sure your furniture will be much appreciated! Love Di ♥

  7. I really enjoy apple butter. My mother used to make the best. Surely the pennies are not in it.
Now you have to let us know.
That's wonderful about your helping this woman and I pray the Lord moves in her life in a powerful way.

  8. OK I just read that the pennies and the constant stirring is what keeps the apple butter from burning to the bottom of the pot. I also read the pennies should be pre-1980...presumably because there was more copper in them?? What a neat tradition that family has...and how nice of them to share the results with you!

God's blessings on this young woman as she moves forward in her new life in Christ!

  11. I think it's really neat that Jacquelyn knew what the pennies were for! I wonder if they use the same ones every year. Love Di ♥

  12. Very interesting about the apple butter! I make apple butter, but not in those quantities and I do it the easy way in the crock pot!

"N" is so excited about the furniture! Everyhing is sort of coming together, little by little. Donna

  13. I remember my mother and some friends making apple butter outside in an iron pot. I made it this year in a crock pot -- not as good but my family was pleased.

So blessed to read of another child of God. I hope she was able to find all the items she needed to set up her home.
