My husband and I attended this country church
during our college years and early married lives.
I treasure this cookbook not just because of the wonderful recipes,
but because every page conjures up a special memory in my mind.

This morning I used up 3 "black" bananas and followed
my great-aunt Pearl's recipe for banana bread.
(I didn't add a cup of nuts.)
I baked the bread in this Corning Ware bread pan.
We received several casserole dishes in this pattern
as wedding gifts in 1971.
I've added other pieces such as this one throughout the years
while shopping in thrift stores and at garage sales.

love the quote... no banana bread around here. There is a certain someone who cannot be trusted with sweets ;)
ReplyDeleteThe recipe I use calls for shortening, not butter, but I use coconut oil. Also no sour milk...I think I may give your aunt's recipe a try sometime though. I love banana bread.
ReplyDeleteIt is special to have heirloom recipes!

ReplyDeleteWouldn't it be WONDERFUL if we could actually meet each other around the table???? Oh, my! What a dream that would be.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I can top your recipe because yours is made with memories and those always taste the best.
ReplyDeleteI do love banana bread, but I don't like to eat bananas, so I'll be over too, set another cup out for me please!
I have 4 browning bananas sitting in the bowl right now... thanks for the reminder, and the inspiration, and the wonderful quote!
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Debbie
'Love the quote! And 'love the idea of such a treasured recipe book!
ReplyDeleteWe also got that same corning ware pattern when we were first married (1973), but, unfortunately all the pieces got broken over the years. I especially miss the roasting pan that came with an insert rack. I've tried to replace that but they don't make it anymore :(
Love and Prayers,
Eileen
PS ~ Banana bread is one of my favorites but I haven't made it for so long (except for Pillsbury quick breads!)
No fair...I have been wanting to fix some breads...banana or pumpkin...it just rings in fall...but at 106 degrees today you can forget it...I don't know when we will see fall.
ReplyDeleteOh enjoy that bread...I can smell it all the way down here in Texas
Aren't old recipe books wonnnnderful! I'm like you, Rebecca....they bring such memories back to me. I wouldn't take anything for mine....even the stains from previous attempts at cooking evoke smiles from me.
ReplyDeleteI love banana bread....with nuts! :))
Love,
Jackie
What a great quote! The bread looks oh, so good. I was married in 1975 and had some of the same baking ware given to me for gifts.
