It went on to give helpful suggestions of how to BE a lifelong learner, including: Create and plan new learning projects. Look for potential formal and informal learning opportunities. Talk to new and interesting people from a variety of backgrounds. Read books on diverse subjects. Incorporate games and technology into your learning quest. Give up perfectionism understanding the goal is not to become an expert at every subject but to grasp general concepts of many. (Of course along the way, one might develop a more in-depth interest in one or more fields.)
This got me thinking about these verses in God's Word: Rather, you must grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (2 Peter 3:18), and ...we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ,who is the head of his body, the church (Ephesians 4:15).

The older get the more I realize how much I do not know and the importance of ever learning.
ReplyDeleteThere is an endless list of things I would like to know more about but for right now I am focusing on gardening (I would love to be able to produce more of my own food), Photography, I have a camera that I know am not using to it's full potential and this computer thing( I didn't come into the computer world willingly and I still struggle with some of the basics)
Spiritually, I want to know more about Jesus, I want my life to reflect more of him and less of me, so that's what I am learning these days.
I love the idea of being a lifelong learner...In every way in my life, but especially with Jesus as the teacher! Thanks for your comment on my blog...God bless.
ReplyDeleteNow this was a really good and challenging post that I need to give some serious attention to! "A lifetime of learning is a lifetime not wasted" ~ Similar to what we always tried to tell our kids: "You never want to stop learning". So why do I feel so guilty if I take "time" for myself, to read, to write, to travel or whatever? Humm...I see some serious "permission" here...and I intend to pursue that thought! to learn and I couldn't agree more. I try
to consistently be about learning something
new. But, there is nothing more important
than learning more about Jesus and His word!
Wonderful. I was thinking recently about how I would speak at my daughter's graduation, what I would say. I realized that I would capitalize on her desire to some about much. Now you've given me a definition and a label for it!

I'm glad we're never too old to learn new things - especially the things that really matter! I love the old hymn; we still sing it sometimes - and those words are my prayer, too! Do you remember the old song "Sitting at the feet of Jesus . . ." - I can't think of a better classroom!

When I stop desiring to learn then you can just bury me...it is the breath of life to me.
ReplyDeleteLearning in His word...highlighting the "I will" in the Bible...each time the Lord says "I will" and realizing how many have nothing to do with me, but because He is God.
Re-learning with my five-year-old...all those little things and enjoying that at this time in his life he thinks I know everything! LOL

There are so many things I want to learn.
I like how the scripture you shared says to grow in EVERY way to be more and more like Christ!
I find myself just aching to learn more about God. I love focusing on one of His attributes and finding where I can incorporate it into my life. I've found the more you study God the more I can show His character. When my interest in studying him wanes so does my ability to show Jesus to others fails. More, more, more is my cry.
