Each Word A Gift*

~Introducing my SmartPhone~
Couldn't sleep last night my niece was hurting so bad just hoping this work it will be well wreath it .know up for work and taking the ice pack wiyh me.
B...., at some ointment I guess we'll have to exercise!
...so read a couple of postings on facebook this morning--not mine this time anyway.   Wow!  A person almost has to be a linguist to interpret messages these days!  And alas!  I've entered the murky world of the smart phone, complete with the feature that lets me speak my message into it and then translates it into send-able text.  You can spell that potential c-o-n-f-u-s-i-o-n   (and sometimes t-r-o-u-b-l-e).
The Bible is SO full of warnings and teachings about the importance of good, wholesome communication. I have tried to proofread my messages before I hit the send button while using my new Nokia Lumia phone.  It reminds me to be equally careful about checking my words before they roll off of my tongue lest they, too, be confusing or troublesome!
Watch the way you talk. ... Say only what helps, each word a gift.  (Ephesians 4:29, The Message)
  * Not to be confused with  the "Gift of Gab" - an idiomatic phrase which means the ability to talk readily, glibly, and convincingly.  (Wikipedia)

  1. Oh, that's funny! When I first read it I thought to myself that you were really in a hurry when you were typing this! Good reminder to always be careful what we say! That's a sweet picture of you and your mister. :0)

  2. Oh my goodness, what a hoot. I proof read also before hitting the send button and still make mistakes sometimes. I don't have a smart phone or any 'new-fangled' gadget like that. My keyboard is what I type with. I love to type, DH did too. We both learned how in high school.

  3. Oh yes...I can't use the voice control on my phone it can't understand my Texas accent and how it interprets it is really off....my kids have laughed if I don't proof text.

I need to watch my words...especially when I am stewing..but then again I guess mine starts first in my thoughts.

Thanks for the good word today

  6. I haven't yet entered the texting world! as it would take me forever to learn the words. I do need to make sure what comes forth from my lips is edifying, thanks for the reminder. Enjoyed this post~

    1. Never say "never", Sue. If you'd have told me a few years ago where I am on laptop and phone, I would have laughed - much like Sarai in the Bible :)

  7. I text so slowly that I've taken to voice texting, which has it's own set of challenges. Never know what the phone THINKS I said, LOL! Every word a gift...I like that and will try to remember when tempted to wrap up a less than nice 'gift' for or about someone.

    Cheers,

    1. The voice texting MUST have been responsible for the two I passed on here! I use it, too, but have learned to go back and check! I have a friend named Diana. One time I voice-texted, "Hey die." I'm happy I caught it and got it changed to "Hey, Di..."

  8. oh yes, words have meaning! and they can be used to bless or curse. Glad I read this early today, a good reminder to "say only what helps" ... my challenge for the day! Yeah, "smart" phones aren't always so "smart", are they?!

  9. I really don't like when I make mistakes with typing. It irks me to no end and I find myself carefully going over each word that I've typed! As for texting, I'm not so crazy about it but have to answer my children's texts anyway!! My husband is on me about getting a smart phone but I just don't want one. I really don't have the need but it's hard finding a GOOD phone that isn't smart! That makes no sense but I knew what I meant, LOL!!
Good luck with the talk/text thing Rebecca. Love Di ♥

    1. Me, too (mistakes). I'm quick to "catch" them when other people text/write, so become VERY "irked" when I find myself in error.

  10. LOL . . . when I first read this I thought, "Mercy, Rebecca must really be sleepy!"

I, too, want to be careful about the words that from my fingertips and my mouth. Once exposed, it's very difficult to backtrack, right?

  11. I thought you were having a mild stroke LOL Technology is flying by me. I try hard to hang on to the simplicity but it is getting impossible. My son was telling all about his new smart phone today....the thing is I do not even have a cell phone yet. I did learn to use our new GPS. :)
